Hello
there everybody!
Long
time to speak, huh? Well due to that fact I have lots to talk about
and just a little time to do it, so with out further adieu here we
go...
I am
typing this on the eve before the North American release of X-2:
X-Men United, which is going to be one of the most talked about movies
this year for many of us.
As you
may recall Gordon Smith's FXSMITH Inc. did an amazing job with the
innovative makeup designs for the first film. He out
did himself on this new one. I had the privilege of being able
to speak with him at his Toronto studio about the makeups he did
for
the film. Our talk lasted just shy of 3 hours, and it is the longest
article that we have
ever had on the site. Large enough that I have had to break it
up into two parts. Part two should be showing up here just before
the
International Makeup Trade Show.
Also
in this update is the first of two articles written by your friendly
neighborhood webmistress Megan about getting your online portfolio
up to snuff. Its becoming increasingly important in the digital days
that your online presentation look just as good as what you would
present in real life.
I had
the chance to catch up with Matt Singer recently. He is putting the
finishing touches on his new platinum silicone appliance system.
From everything that he has told me about this new system its going
to be incredibly easy to use, you won't have to inject your pieces,
and it kicks fairly quickly. If you would like to read a little more
about it you can download the .doc file about it here
It would
seem that silicone has been getting some press here and there over the
past year. My good buddies at Hybrid FX made the cover of NATIONAL
GEOGRAPHIC earlier this year in an article about Skin. I was pretty
jazzed about it and if you happened to miss it I have a copy of the
cover uploaded. Check it out!
Look for a profile of Hybrid FX very soon.
Replicants.org
also got a little bit of press recently. While at the European Makeup
Trade Show this past January Neil Gorton (who was doing makeup demos)
spoke very highly about the site to Dick Smith, who in turn was so
impressed with us that he did a write up in his Dick's Corner
column in MAKEUP ARTIST MAGAZINE this past month. I was
really touched that my little site has made such an impact.
It seems
that there has been a recent makeup boom in Hollywood again recently,
and that means there may be more for films fro us to talk about really
soon. While I have not been personally privy to any makeup fx work
I did complete two album covers for Control.org's Radiate album,
and another one for the Nyarlathotep EP Our Thoughts Make Spirals
in their World. I was pretty happy with the way the covers came
out and even happier with being involved with two very high quality
albums.
Its some really top notch electronic music that I think more then
a few of you might enjoy. Check out the web sites if you get the
chance.
Also
of note in the music world is the new disc from Collide called
Some Kind of Strange. I've been listening to it non-stop
since I got it, and this transmission would not have been possible
with out
it. : ) Its their strongest release to date,
and I hope that with this release they finally see some of the success
they so richly deserve. The mesh of influences from industrial, to
trip hop and just a bit of idm thrown in for good measure is kind
of a breath of fresh air in comparison to the cookie cutter electronic
bands making music these days.If you like your music immaculately
produced with mesmerizing female vocals
that
will
haunt
you (in a
good sort
of way) for days after listening I'd suggest you look into picking
up a copy of this disc. You won't be disappointed!
It seems
like I have about 100 other things to mention, but for some reason
they are escaping me at the moment. I'm sure it will come to me when
I re-update this over the weekend.
So that's
all for now, but as per usual if you have any questions about something
you read here, would like to contribute an article, have interest
in being interviewed, or are wondering if
I
have super powers, and if so do
I use them for good, or for awesome feel free to drop
me a line
