Hello there!

This new exciting episode is our Trade Show update.

This years show was... well... it didn't have quite the same vibe as previous shows.

There were some really worthwhile new products at the show however...like the new baldies cap material. [ who first introduced their material at the Euro Trade Show this past winter] This may prove to be be one of the most important pieces of the puzzle for those of us trying to find a GOOD encapsulant for GF-As. It's softer than ANY cap material I have ever used, you can airbrush it, or paint it on... best of all you are able to take your edges down with either acetone OR isopropyl alcohol !! No more actors getting cranky because your chemicals stink too much!! That in its self is reason enough to pick it up!! If you haven't had the pleasure of working with the material I would HIGHLY suggest that you hop on over to their site and order a bottle. I DON'T think you will be disappointed!!

Also making a splash by way of a "grass roots" campaign was New Flesh Clay [which was created by forum regular, and LONG TIME supporter of replicants.org Hob.] Now THIS is the clay that all of us have been waiting for. Its a wax based clay, but unlike most wax based clays , its NOT STICKY, nor is it brittle. It holds detail amazingly well, and best of all it has been tested by a genuine certified silicone nut (tm) to insure that it will not inhibit the cure of platinum silicones!! [which of course is one less thing to worry about now when working with a platinum gel ] The other really cool thing about it is that when thin enough the clay is TRANSLUCENT. I did a quick sculpt with the clay, and I found that it helped quite a bit to get an instant idea of how your appliance was going to look... I think that not too long from now you are going to see this clay used by the big boys. So remember YOU HEARD ABOUT IT HERE FIRST. heh.

Both Silicones Inc, and Smooth On have some new things up their sleeves that I will be speaking of in our next update [which won't be until October due to the traveling I'm doing]

Our next update is going to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the site along with a much needed overhaul to the look [and perhaps content as well] I think the new interface will be much easier to move around in, and HOPEFULLY it will be the final radical change to the site for sometime =)

This month we also have a NEW featured artist by the name of Arturo Balseiro, a Spanish effects makeup artist with an impressive list of genre credits including The recent Devil's Backbone, and the HP Lovecraft based Dagon. Its cool stuff!!

[update 9/2/02]

After receiving an email from David Marti of DDT SFX I should make it clear that Arturo was one of many artists on both Dagon, and The Devil's Backbone. It was the combined efforts of many people, including Xavi Bastida, Jose Manuel Meneses, Arturo Balseiro, Shohei Terashita,Juan Serrano, Merche Arque, Serjio Sandoval, Miguel Mage Rodriguez, Montse Ribe and David Marti that brought the fx to the screen...

Thank you for the letter David!

[ btw Guy, and Kaj... I am going to make your pics clickable as well very soon....probaly with the next update ]

Also new this month is the merchandise page. Which includes t-shirts and stickers. [if you have seen me at a trade show more then likely I have been in one of our shirts.] All of the ordering information is there, but if you have any questions you can always send me an email.

The new update will hopefully get me back in the swing of things, and stick to the idea of an interview, a how-to, and a featured artist... we'll see what my trip to the UK brings... [ if you are a UK based FX artist I am going to be there from the 5th-12th of September drop me an email and maybe we can chat while I'm there]

I guess that about wraps it up for now. As per usual if you have any questions, comments, would like to be a featured artist, would like to contribute an article, or were just wondering if Senor Coconut's cover album was just as good as the Kraftwerk songs that inspired it feel free to drop me a line

See ya in October!!
