[biography]
This month's artist is Arturo Balseiro. This 27 year old resident of Madrid,
Spain has been working in the FX field since he was 17. Mr. Balseiro has
been through the intensive Dick Smith course, and has worked in most Spanish
FX shops. Most memorable, he says, has been working with DDT. He's been
working with silicone ever since "Tom McLaughlin brought everybody
the Bible! [Silicone Arts]" This summer he plans on traveling to
Barcelona for an unnamed big budget project.
Past works of his include:
2000: "Arachnid" & "Dagon" (DDT) of Fantastic
factory(Bryan Yuzna).
2000:"The Devil's Back bone"(DDT) of Guillermo del Toro.
1999:"El corazon del guerrero", (with the DDT studio)of Daniel
Monzon
1998:"Goya en Burdeos", of Carlos Saura
Of his experiences, Balseiro says "The work in Spain it very difficult:
low budgets and NO TIME. Most of the works I've made in silicone are my
own projects."

PHOTOS:
All of the heads were made in a Spanish tin cure silicone cast in silicone
molds (3481 Dow corning), painted with silicone caulking and thinned
in D-limonene or Nafta. Additionally Balseiro did all of the punching
work.
The other three samples are personal projects. "El mago" is
a gelatine make-up. I used Skin illustrator to color it and there is
a lot of airbrush "sparkling".
The Alien was made in Dragon skin in a plaster mold. This is the the
most recent work of mine. This time I painted with acrylics and 70 alcohol
(airbrush) and sealed with silicone caulking thinned in nafta.I felt
better working with this procedure. The old man was cast in a Spanish
tin cure silicone and painted in the same procedure as the alien. The
eye balls are self-made.
